Luella!

Is it possible not to smile when you look at Luella Bartley's clothes? Her fall collection makes me overjoyed that fashion exists. The yellow dress? Imagine showing up at a school dance as the fabulous girl in the funky ruffly yellow dress. The blazer and bowtie combo? Totally daring and sexy. And the black bowfront dress. One word: Audrey. So I just have one thing to say. Thank you, Luella! Ta-Ta.

Marie! I Just Met a Girl Named Marie!

I had been excited for months to see Marie Antoinette. I'd read good and bad things about it, one of the bad being its 54% rating on rottentomatoes.com. Neverthless, I'd seen the article about it a couple of weeks ago in Entertainment Weekly, and it made me really interested in what Sofia Coppola had accomplished. So I saw it yesterday. And I really enjoyed it. It's 80's punk rock in the eighteenth century. There is not much talking, but it's marvelous to look at. The colors and the costumes are beautiful (I have no doubt that it will at least be nominated for a costume design Oscar), and I was never bored of watching, even if it moved at a slow, dreamy pace. If you've seen The New World, it moves a lot like that, but I enjoyed Marie Antoinette much more. Louis (played by Jason Swartzman) was the original lovable nerd, and I loved the awkward relationship the young couple had. I am excited to by the soundtrack now; it's a mix of pop rock and classical. Overall, this is a quirky, fun dramedy with gorgeous scenery and costumes, and I encourage any fashion-lover to see it. You should see the shoes!

Oh, and another thing: My mother and I both have a feeling that wearing ribbons around your neck with become a fashion trend because of this movie, so get to the craft store now and buy those ribbons!

What a Shoe!

Is it possible not to love this menswear inspired shoe from Payless? It's $19.99 and it comes in black or "bone," which is a fancy way of saying white.

So, I haven't posted in quite a while. What have I been up to? I've been working on schoolwork, remembering things by creating puns or relating it to fashion. Or, in some cases, both. For example, to remember what redress means, I remembered, with the help of my clever mom, that Stacy and Clinton do that on What not to Wear. They literally "redress" people, but by doing that they are "redressing" or correcting an issue.

Also, I attended a pep rally today, where I was terrified the bleachers would collapse beneath the weight of all the peppy teenagers, and the feedback on the microphones was so loud that I couldn't even hear the cheerleaders' cheers. How will I live?

Anyway, I'm glad I could take a break and drool over some gorgeous shoes.

Dress Day

I decided I suddenly had to go to homecoming when I found the perfect dress at Forever 21. I knew I wanted something 60's, and this is perfect. Yesterday was a dress day, because I also found a Gap dress for $10 at Plato's Closet. It's a perfect little black dress, and I'm wearing it on Halloween as Holly Golightly. But who says I can't wear it again? I also got an incredible 60's-style Charlotte Russe dress for just $6, and I'm wearing it on decade day next week. It's magenta tweed with a black bow in the front. Very Jackie O. And I also got a great used black New York and Company wrap dress. If you haven't visited any consignment shops, you really should, because they're worth it. If you find the right one, you can get great deals on amazing clothes in fabulous condition.

I discovered the greatness of Youtube.com the other day when a friend told me about a hilarious video she saw. I watched it, and it has to be one of the funniest, well-made parodies I've seen. It's really worth it if you want to check it out here. It may give you nightmares, but it'll make your side split laughing.
